Modena Kart Racing Team has just confirmed in the finest possible way the numerous podium finishes achieved in the WSK Super Master Series. At South Garda Karting in Lonato, where competition is always extremely fierce, Elton Hedfors and Luigi d'Ascoli crossed the finish line in 1st and 2nd places in the OK-N Junior Final at the wheel of the Italian team's highly competitive Parolin-TM Karts. Hedfors has taken the lead in the overall WSK Euro Series standings and will do everything he can to hold onto his position at the third and final round in July in Cremona.

Modena Kart confirms its strong presence in OK-N Junior

With 11 drivers entered, Modena Kart was the best-represented team in OK-N Junior at Lonato, proof of the top reputation achieved by this leading Italian team. In both Free Practice and the race, the fastest laps came thick and fast, and the Final ended in a spectacular fashion with a one-two finish! 61 drivers lined up on the grid and all team members managed to qualify for the Final, with the exception of Ioannis Kolovos, who had to withdraw on the very first day of competition following a racing incident. The whole team wishes him a speedy recovery.

Elton Hedfors - Fast throughout the event and winner of his Super Heat, Elton started from the front row in the Final. After a magnificent overtaking manoeuvre on the leader, the Swede pulled away for the first time, then again following a slow procedure. 3rd at Viterbo and 1st at Lonato, Elton Hedfors is the new series leader.

Luigi d'Ascoli - Luigi didn't let his retirement in Heat 1 get him down. He won the other two and continued his remarkable progress to finish 2nd on the podium with the fastest lap.

Nikita Dzhalilov - It's a shame Nikita crashed in one race, as he then shone in the Final final with a superb charge from 33rd to 16th place.

Davide Di Filippo - Productive work with his new team has allowed Davide to showcase his potential. Impressive comebacks and excellent lap times have confirmed this. Unfortunately, Davide crashed at the back of the pack in the first-lap scramble before fighting his way back to 20th.

Federico Mirabella - Federico rediscovered his excellent form nearly two months after his previous appearance in a WSK Promotion event. The Italian put in a consistent performance and gained around ten places to finish in 11th position. A further penalty saw him reclassified 21st.

Tommaso Corsi - Tommaso Corsi's progress continues to bear fruit, as illustrated by his return to 11th place (+8) in a Qualifying Heat. The young Italian thus secured his place in the Final in this competitive field, before finishing 22nd (+12).

Radu Basescu Pricop - P2 in Saturday's warm-up and climbing from 17th to 6th place in the Super Heat with the fastest lap, the Romanian was fast and in contention for the top 15 in the Final, but a penalty saw him drop to 24th.

Atiqa Mir - 7th in Qualifying, 2nd in one heat, 3rd and twice 2nd in his warm-ups, the Indian driver showed great competitiveness at Lonato. She deserved far better than a 25th-place finish in the Final following a spoiler penalty.

Ruzgar Evci - A truly encouraging performance from the Turkish driver! In his first WSK race of the season, he performed very well and reached the top eight several times during the event, but unfortunately had to retire in the Final.

Danila Verba - Having fought his way back to 5th place three times in the Qualifying Heats, including once with the 2nd-fastest lap time, the young Russian was already 9th in the Final at the halfway stage when a collision cost him his chances of a good result. A real shame!

Ioannis Kolovos - Disappointment for Ioannis, who was coming off a podium finish in the WSK Euro Series back in February at Viterbo. An incident in his very first heat forced him to withdraw from the rest of the competition. He nevertheless remains 5th in the overall standings.

Analysis by Gabriele Finocchi, team principal of Modena Kart

"Having already performed very well throughout the WSK, Elton Hedfors was rewarded for his efforts and fighting spirit with this magnificent victory. It's well deserved! Thanks to Luigi d'Ascoli, we've once again placed two drivers on the podium. I was also very happy to see 10 karts sporting the Modena Kart Racing Team colours on the starting grid. This is the result of consistent and fruitful teamwork!"

Comment from Alessandro Palloni, team manager at Modena Kart

"The Parolin chassis and TM Kart engines supplied by MA Engines are truly high-performance, but I must admit that our technical staff and our drivers manage to get the very best out of them. We dominated the Final and secured a sensational one-two finish with Elton and Luigi, whilst it's worth noting that our other drivers were also fast. This bodes well ahead of the third and final round of the WSK Euro Series in Cremona and in the run-up to the opening round of the ACI Karting Italian Championship, which begins this weekend at the Lonato circuit."
