Kart: a record-breaking 2025 season and heightened ambitions for 2026
Reportagem: Sodi World Series

The 2025 Sodi W Series (SWS) season marks a major turning point in the development of the world leisure karting championship. The platform has passed the symbolic milestone of 150,000 registered drivers, confirming the growing appeal of the concept on an international scale.

This momentum is also reflected in a significant increase in the number of races, with more than 20,000 events now organised each year, representing more than 50 races per day worldwide. This figure illustrates the vitality of the SWS network and the ongoing commitment of its partners.

2025 also saw the arrival of 55 new tracks, strengthening the network's presence on every continent.

2025 review: global expansion and structural innovations

In 2025, the SWS network now has 760 partner tracks worldwide, with a stronger presence in new territories. New countries joined the adventure, including Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, demonstrating that the development of recreational karting is no longer limited to countries with a long history of motor sport. The return of Algeria and the dynamism of the Maghreb also confirm the region's rise in popularity.

Electric karting continues to grow

The development of electric karting was confirmed in 2025 with the opening of the first 100% electric track in Spain, at Ozone Karting (Los Barrios, Cadiz), near Gibraltar. This is a key step in the diversification of the SWS offering.

Modernised and stabilised regulations

The SWS regulations were thoroughly revised in 2025 with a clear objective: to offer drivers greater freedom, in particular with the possibility of unlimited driving, while adapting to the different organisational models of partner tracks. This change aims to better respond to new ways of taking part in karting, combining leisure, performance and accessibility. No regulatory changes are planned for 2026, with the SWS counting on stability for at least two seasons.

2025 Finals: records, bridges and performances

The 2025 Electric Final made a lasting impression by sending the best SWS representative to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF) in Bahrain. Baptiste Vanderbeke, winner at Wavre, said:

"It was an incredible and very spectacular event. The performance of the E20 karts is impressive. I had an exceptional experience."

This initiative confirms the bridge between the SWS and the RMCGF.

In Campillos, the International Final broke a participation record with 400 drivers. The choice of four-stroke engines for the intercontinental Finals reinforced sporting fairness while simplifying the organisation. The winners were rewarded with a test in OK-NJ at Franciacorta with a professional team such as the Sodi Racing Team.

New Rotax category: effective in 2026

Announced in 2025, the Rotax SWS category will officially come into force on 1st January 2026. It is already generating a lot of interest among tracks and drivers.

Accessible from the age of 15, this category is an excellent compromise between leisure and competition, offering an easily accessible racing pathway and a real gateway to competition.

An International R-Sprint Final is planned for 2027, with the creation of a new community of drivers, in the spirit of the Rotax Racing Club, and races sometimes organised under the dual RRC and SWS banners. Following France's very dynamic Rotax programme, Italy and the Netherlands are now fully involved in the scheme.

Outlook for 2026: stability and major events

The 2026 SWS International Final will take place at Le Mans from 20th to 23rd May in a completely new format: it will be the first 24-hour endurance race in SWS. Two different tracks will be used, the Alain Prost Circuit for the youngest drivers and the International Karting Circuit for the others. The Junior and Kid categories will be able to be grouped together on a single day, in line with school requirements. Major announcements are planned at the end of the meeting, making this event a real revolution for the SWS, at an iconic venue in world motorsport.

2026 Electric Final in Sicily

The 2026 International Electric Final will be held from 11th to 13th June in Sicily at the Rush Speed Arena, near Palermo. In a summer setting in the heart of the Mediterranean, this indoor and outdoor circuit will host the Junior category for the first time, with a target of more than 130 drivers taking part.

Regional Cups: a gateway to excellence

The Regional Cups, both internal combustion and electric with the launch of the E-Regional Cup qualifying for the E-Finals in Sicily, will offer tickets to the RMCGF. Ten tickets will be awarded in the Regional Cup for the International Final in Le Mans and six tickets for the Electric Final.

Six countries are participating in the SWS Regional Cup: Portugal, the USA, Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Aruba. Three countries are participating in the new E-Regional Cup: the USA, Sweden and Malaysia.

Sodi World Series confirms its ambition: to offer an accessible, innovative and structured world championship capable of bringing together all forms of karting, from leisure to competition, across the globe.
