Kart: a top-level performance at the World Championships
Reportagem: David Cosma Cristofor

David Cosma Cristofor approached the most important event of his karting season, the OK-Junior World Championship, with his characteristic seriousness and determination. 123 drivers took part and the 14-year-old Romanian hopeful put in a remarkable performance to finish 4th, which was also the best finish for the KR Motorsport team in Franciacorta.

David Cosma Cristofor is one of the fastest-rising drivers in 2023, and is now one of the best Junior drivers of his generation. In his first full season in FIA Karting, he was strong in the European Championship and confirmed his position in the toughest event of the year. Held in northern Italy near Brescia, the latest World Championship broke all records for participation, with a total of 123 entries. In these conditions, it was imperative to achieve the highest possible level of excellence. David Cosma Cristofor was well aware of this and worked very hard to move to the top of the world rankings.

A perfect meeting!

Just a few days after celebrating a new Romanian Championship title, the young driver put all his energy into working with his team to achieve the best possible World Championship. He optimised his preparation by taking part in two events on the Franciacorta circuit in September, then fine-tuned his KR-IAME-Vega package during Free Practice. Concentrating on his objective, he had an excellent Qualifying session in 11th position.

David followed this up with a faultless performance in the qualifying heats: P2, P1, P2, P4, P4 and P4! He confirmed this in the Super Heat with 4th place in a very lively field in which he showed himself to be fast, combative and consistent. This brilliant clear round, with no mistakes or penalties, was to continue in the eagerly-awaited Final. In karting, the World Championship standings are decided in a single race, and concentration must remain at a maximum level. What's more, starting from the outside of the grid is never easy, but David Cosma Cristofor managed to hold on to 6th place on the first lap.

His KR-IAME kart in the Cetilar Racing livery proved particularly competitive, as did its driver. In the midst of the world's best drivers, he quickly moved up to 5th position, then 4th. Unfortunately, the top three had pulled ahead and the podium was out of reach. He remained solid right to the end, however, and confirmed this incredible result in view of the level of the event. David can be proud of this 4th place, which allows him to look to the future with optimism. The KR Motorsport team led by its manager Dino Chiesa, Cetilar Racing, Lorenzo his mechanic, his engine builder and the IAME engine brand must obviously be thanked for their part in this great performance, as must his many supporters and partners.
