Kart: Franciacorta World Championship / the big one
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

The Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship - OK & Junior at Franciacorta from 6th to 8th October 2023 has special conditions in terms of entries and preparation, likely to make it one of the biggest karting events of recent years, if not decades.

In addition to the Champions of the Future Euro Series, which usually precedes the FIA Karting OK and OK-Junior events, this year saw the addition of the WSK Euro Series a month in advance at Franciacorta, with the novelty of using Vega tyres in the Junior category and MG tyres in the OK category. These two international events were supplemented for some by participation in the ACI Karting Italian Championship two weeks before the world event.

The approaching FIA Karting World Championship - OK & Junior at Franciacorta will therefore have benefited from several prior events to enable the participants to prepare on the same circuit in race conditions during the month preceding the competition. Will these very rare conditions influence performance and the final result? The answer will be very interesting to discover over the coming weekend.

The opposition between pure talent, capable of adapting quickly to new conditions, and the ability to progress after repeated training sessions is nothing new in motor sport when it comes to determining a driver's true ability. On the teams' side, the difference also exists when it comes to finding the best settings and the tyres strategy to adopt. Indeed, the record participation in this World Championship, 115 OK and 126 OK-Junior, is accompanied by a large number of Qualifying Heats. 21 heats per category, seven per driver plus the Super Heats will have to be run on just six tyres, which is no mean feat. This is an important parameter to consider if you want to qualify and occupy the best possible position on the starting grid for the Final.

So there will be a lot to look out for in FIA Karting at Franciacorta. This World Championship is going to be contested by some sharp competitors and we can expect some extremely close races. Who will benefit remains a mystery!

Another highlight of the Franciacorta meeting will be the first "Road to the OK-N World Cup", the first international competition open to the new OK-N and OK-N Junior categories. A support event organised by the Italian ASN ACI Sport, it will logically bring together a large number of Italian drivers (49 out of 70), but 17 nations will be represented in total, demonstrating the high level of interest in these up-and-coming categories. The high level of media exposure generated by the fact that the event is being held alongside the World Championship will undoubtedly have beneficial effects in terms of broadening the karting base.

The FIA Karting World Championship - OK & Junior and the first "Road to the OK-N World Cup" can be followed live on kartcom.com from Friday 6th October.
