Kart: rain and sun at the WSK Open Cup
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

As the weather was clearly split between rain on Friday and dry conditions leading to clear sunshine for the Finals on Sunday, the inconvenience was not too great in Lonato. On the contrary, the situation offered interesting experience for both drivers and teams as the off-season and the 2023 model preparations approach.

In the absence of Tony Kart / Vortex in KZ2, Emilien Denner's Sodi / TM beat Giuseppe Palomba's Birel ART / TM in a close battle. Daniel Vasile (DR/Modena) obtained a rewarding result in 3rd place ahead of several CRG/TM karts. Yevan David (Sodi/TM) finished 20th on his KZ2 debut with CPB Sport.

Energy/TM won in OK with its top driver Tomass Stolcermanis, but the KR/IAME and Tony Kart/Vortex karts battled for a long time at the front. The rookies have not yet made it to the front: Kirill Kutskov (Birel ART/TM) finished 7th ahead of Jan Przyrowski (Tony Kart/Vortex), Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex) 14th, Lucas Fluxa Cross (KR/Iame) 16th, Anatholy Khavalkin (Parolin/TM) 17th with a penalty (11th on the line), Nathan Tye (Sodi/TM) finished 18th.

RFM put in a good performance in OK-Junior with Salim Hanna Hernandez (LN/Vortex) winning and Maciej Gladysz (LN/Vortex) 4th, while Miguel Costa (KR/Iame) and Taym Saleh (KR/Iame) took 2nd and 3rd positions. Ward Racing's Israeli driver Guy Elbag (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished in the top five. Jimmy Helias (Energy/TM) finished 10th in his first event with a new team and Andy Consani (Parolin/TM) 13th in the Shamick Europe team. Amongst the newcomers Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) finished 18th and Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) did not reach the Final.

Birel ART triple in the French Championship

At the same time, the French Championship took place in Aunay-les-Bois. Birel ART won the KZ2 title with Paolo Besancenez, the KZ2 Master title with Nelson Bondier and the KZ2 Gentleman title with Yan Vuillermoz in an exceptional harvest of victories for the Italian factory in Lissone. In the National 12-16 category, Louis Iglesias (CRG/Rotax) was crowned after a flawless run from 21st position in Qualifying. His uncle Jérémy Iglesias (CRG/TM) would have liked to achieve the same success in the WSK Open Cup, where he was constantly among the fastest KZ2 drivers, to join his nephew's victory.

Again in Lonato, the oldest still active competition, the Trofeo delle Industrie, will see its 50th edition next weekend at the South Garda Karting.
