Kart: 24H Le Mans / cars and karting
Reportagem: KartCom Selection

Endurance racing is perhaps the most fluid path for the future of karting drivers. During the last 24H of Le Mans, a good fifty drivers present could be termed kartmen, including one of the winners, Sébastien Buemi. Among them, about twenty have shone in karting in their early years at international level: the double World Champions Nyck de Vries and Emmanuel Collard, Michael Christensen European Champion and vice World Champion, Robert Kubica several times titled in ICA-Junior, five European Champions: Ben Hanley, Ben Barnicoat, Will Stevens, James Calado, Kevin Estre, and also Giancarlo Fisichella, vice World and European Champion, Nicklas Nielsen who was crowned six times in WSK...

Although it is still difficult to build a long professional career, the opportunities to find a drive in endurance racing are real and more accessible than in single-seaters. Of course, good results in karting do not automatically guarantee a drive in a car. However, the qualities developed at the beginning of a career in this discipline seem to be appreciated in endurance racing. Many drivers at a good national level in karting find themselves in strong positions. Moreover, the track times in endurance racing meet the needs of most of them. Of course, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a unique event with a large number of participants. However, it is not out of the question to plan a complete programme in the major WEC, LMS and Blancpain series, especially in GT.

LIn karting, endurance racing had its glory days in France until 2019, the last year of the FIA Karting Endurance Championship. Then Covid came along. The 24H Karting du Mans will be back in 2022 and its 35th edition will take place from 22th to 25th September at the Circuit International Karting du Mans.
