Kart: the podium streak continues for Modena
Reportagem: Modena Kart

A week after mastering the rainy conditions at the Leopard circuit in Viterbo during the WSK Euro Series, the Modena Kart Racing Team performed just as well on the same track, but this time with slick tyres and much more pleasant temperatures during the third round of the WSK Super Master Series. Sweden's Elton Hedfors confirmed his competitiveness by finishing 2nd on the podium and moving up to 2nd place in the overall OK-N Junior standings.

Modena Kart Racing Team again at the forefront

In Viterbo, there were once again numerous top five finishes in the Qualifying Heats and fastest laps. In addition to Elton Hedfors' outstanding performance, three drivers representing the team earned their places in the top eight on the starting grid for the Final. Luigi D'Ascoli also took 2nd place in Super Heat B, Ioannis Kolovos finished 3rd in a Qualifying Heat, and Danila Verba climbed to 5th place in another race with the fastest lap!

Elton Hedfors - With the fastest time in his group in Qualifying, Elton went on to win two heats and the Super Heat, adding two fastest laps to his brilliant performance. P3 on the first lap of the Final, the Swede made a magnificent overtaking manoeuvre to take 2nd place on the podium.

Ioannis Kolovos - The Greek driver was in control north of Rome: P6, P4 and P3 in the qualifying heats, then P6 in the Super Heat, he moved up to P6 in the Final. It was a shame that a poor front fairing position pushed him back to P10.

Luigi D'Ascoli - The young Italian must have been very disappointed to have been pushed off at the first corners of the Final after making a magnificent start to find himself in 3rd position. However, Luigi had a flawless three days: P7 in Qualifying, P5 and twice P4 in the heats, then P2 in the Super Heat, not to mention a warm-up finished in 2nd position.

Radu Basescu Pricop - Unlike his team-mates, the Romanian was not present at the WSK Euro Series. He managed to progress over the days to finish P19 in the Final, gaining 13 places. His time of 53.579, just one and a half tenths of a second off the fastest lap, is also very significant.

Atiqa Mir - The Indian driver had several mishaps and spoiler penalties in Viterbo, which deprived her of a top-15 finish that she was capable of given her performances. In particular, she crossed the finish line in 8th position in Super Heat B.

Federico Mirabella - After setting a promising 5th fastest time in the warm-up, the Italian had a difficult Qualifying session, which forced him to make a relentless comeback. He was hoping to continue his progress in the Final, but found himself involved in a collision at the start!

Alessandro Nanni - The Italian once again showed plenty of speed, as evidenced by his two P4 finishes in the warm-ups on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, Alessandro was unsuccessful in this event, which ended with a DNS.

Tommaso Corsi - A retirement in the first heat cost the Italian valuable points, but he continues to make progress in his Junior debut.

Analysis by Gabriele Finocchi, Modena Kart team principal

"It was a busy month with three consecutive events. We managed to stay focused and determined to achieve this new major result. In Viterbo, the gaps were extremely close. This led to a few racing incidents that prevented some of our drivers from achieving a better result despite excellent lap times during free practice. I congratulate Elton Hedfors on his perfect performance."

Comment from Alessandro Palloni, Modena Kart team manager

"It was nice to have better weather conditions to work in, so we could optimise the performance of the equipment in a more relaxed manner. The collaboration with the Parolin factory has once again proven its effectiveness in a very competitive and intense OK-N Junior category. We are already looking forward to Lonato to achieve more podiums and improve the results of the drivers who did not achieve their goals in Viterbo."
